Dinner of champions?

Pancakes with maple syrup and parmesan cheese.  No, not a pregnancy craving.  Saoirse's 2nd course of dinner.  This is contradicts all sorts of parts of her heritage.

Unscathed for so long

I made it without any major parenting embarrassments for 6.5 years....until now.

In the parking lot of Whole Foods, Saoirse was shouting about how cool it was to have super powers.  Encouraging her creativity, I ask:

Mom:  "Saoirse, what kind of superpower do you have?"
SRC:  "WHITE POWER!!  I have WHITE POWER!" (while jutting her fists in front of her)
Mom:  (Loudly, as to cover her voice) "Oh Saoirse, you mean LIGHT POWER?  That's so cool!  LIGHT POWER is so cool!"
SRC:  "Yeah the light is WHITE!  WHITE POWER!!"

Thank God for animal crackers to stop her from speaking!

Dear 14 year olds

Adele seems to have had it rough. You are a 14 year old, fairly privileged girl from Westchester. Singing Adele will not demonstrate good vocals, nor is it likely that you have had said heartbreaks. Please be more creative in your vocal selections for an important audition.
Thanks,
A teacher who believes in the youth of America

An important lesson from Diana

"Mom, today, Diana, you know the little girl in my class, she told me that I shouldn't stick up my middle finger alone."  says Penelope.
After I put my eyeballs back in my head, I said "Oh, well, she is right, it means something bad.".
I could see the wheels turning in her head.  Penelope then said "But...........maybe.............I was wondering.......you couldtell me..........you know........maybe...well, I know you can't say it, but............maybe there's a good way to tell me what it means."
You're a sweet little lady.  Stay that way, Peanut.

Only on his head

While watching "American Idol" tonight, Stevie Wonder gave a surprise performance. I thought I would take this opportunity to explain to Penelope what it means when someone is blind.
Me: "Penelope, Stevie Wonder is blind"
Penelope:  "No, only a little on his head"
Dad:  "No, Penelope, that's bald."

Of course, once I get the camera out...

So, Penelope & Saoirse were going back and forth, expertly singing "Mana Mana" from the Muppet Show.  Until I got out my phone/camera....if you stick it out to the end, you'll hear Saoirse.  Penny is a pro!

Prayer for those effected by the tsunami

Keeping our west coast friends in our thoughts - hoping their safe.  Here's this morning's conversation:

Me, to my mother:  "Did you hear what happened overnight?"
Nonna:  "No, what?"
Me:  "There was an earthquake/tsunami near Japan."
Penelope:  "Just like Hal Jordan said!"

rowlf & lorenzo

Penelope:  "I can't believe it!  There are TWO muppets that have my uncles' names.  Rowlf & Lorenzo!"
My guess is she was referring to these guys....

For those of you that don't know:  My brother's name are Ralph & Lorenzo.
